I can honestly tell you that all I ever wanted to be was a mom. I think it was for that reason that I had always harbored an overwhelming fear that I would be unable to have children of my own. So, you can imagine my elation when my husband and I found out that we were expecting our first child. Camden was born in November of 2000. Twenty-one months later his little brother, Durham, was born. And, two years after that we welcomed our third child, Maddie, into our home. I so clearly remember the day we brought her home, sitting in our living room looking at our new family of five, and thinking, for the first time in my life, "I feel complete."
My husband, Tony, and I have several friends who have experienced serious infertility issues. They are not only good friends, but they are also good people whom I know would make great parents. I had confided to Tony that I would have carried a child for either of those couples. Luckily, they were both able to resolve their infertility, but a while later, I saw a story on TV about surrogacy and knew it was something that I felt called to do. I decided to be proactive about my search for a couple to carry for, and contacted a local clinic.
