My Story
By Alicia Webster
I can honestly tell you that all I ever wanted to be was a mom.  I
think it was for that reason that I had always harbored an
almost paralyzing fear that I would be unable to have children of
my own.  So, you can imagine my elation when my husband and
I found out that we were expecting our first child.  Camden was
born in November of 2000.  Twenty-one months later his little
brother, Durham, was our newest addition.  Two years after that
we welcomed our third child, Maddie, into our home.  I remember
the day we brought her home from the hospital, sitting in our
living room looking at our new family of five, and thinking, for the
first time in my life, "I feel complete".

My Husband, Tony, and I know two couples who have
experienced serious infertility issues.  They are not only good
friends of ours, but they are also good people whom I know
would make great parents.  I had confided to Tony that I would
have carried a child for either of those couples.  Luckily, they
were both able to resolve their infertility, but a while later, I saw
a story on TV about surrogacy and knew it was something that I
felt called to do.  I decided to be proactive about my search for a
couple to carry for, and contacted a local agency.

I constantly had people approaching me about surrogacy who
were interested in and fascinated by what I was doing.  Some of
the women whom I had shared my story with even considered
becoming surrogates themselves.  I felt deeply conflicted
because I loved the concept of surrogacy, I loved being an
advocate for its success, but there was a problem...

Ultimately, I was so disappointed with the support that I had
received from the agency I was using, that I couldn't in good
conscience recommend them to anyone else.  I knew that I could
do a better job of running the agency than the owner was.  I
wanted for there to be a reputable agency, a dependable
agency, an agency committed to its surrogates and intended
parents.  An agency that was personal and supportive, but still
run like a business, not a hobby.

We started by seriously investing a good six months into
research and development before opening the business.  We
spent a lot of time analyzing other agencies and created the
exact type of agency I wish I had found my first time as a
surrogate.  Then we set out to find the best possible support
staff.  We've hired the number one psychologist in Idaho
dedicated to Third Party Reproduction.  We also work with the
only lawyer in the state of Idaho specializing in surrogacy
contracts.  And, we work very closely with ICRM, the Idaho
Center for Reproductive Medicine, and also have coordinated
with clinics from all over the US as well as abroad.

We have met with nothing but excellent surrogate candidates,
and are so excited by the quality of support that we have been
able to offer.  The Gift of Surrogacy started out as a labor of
love, and has evolved into an agency that we all can be proud
of.  We are constantly striving to shine the positive light on
surrogacy that it so richly deserves.  We have committed
ourselves to providing the best possible experience for both our
Intended Parents and our Surrogates, eliminating the drama
that seems synonymous with bad surrogacy experiences.

My introduction into the world of surrogacy was filled with
uncertainty, confusion, and disappointment.  From that negative
beginning came the most wonderful solution: The Gift of
Surrogacy.  This agency was created because I knew it could be
done better.  And, that's exactly what we have done.

You know those three kids that I mentioned earlier?  I often
awake early in the morning to find that all three of them have
managed to find their way into our bed at some point during the
night.  As I watch my husband and our three kids sleep--I think
to myself "everything that matters is in this room."
I hope that morning finds you soon...

And, I hope that you will include us in your journey--
It's the right agency, and if it's the right time...
We would be honored to be included in your miracle.
